In September I had a fantastic holiday visiting Cambodia and Vietnam. We flew into Singapore and treated ourselves for 2 nights at the Marina Bay Sands. While we were there we had breakfast at the zoo with the Orangutans and visited the Gardens on the Bay, simply amazing. We then flew to Siem Reap where we were up early the next day to visit Angkor Wat, well worth the early morning.
Our next flight was into Hanoi; it was manic but such fun. Onwards to Halong Bay for 1 night aboard the Jasmine Junk which was so peaceful and scenic. We went back to Hanoi for the night and then went on to Hue. Hue is such a lovely place, we visited the Citadel which was well worth a visit.
We then had a ½ day private from Hue to Hoi An which we journeyed over spectacular Hai Van pass, learnt about the Cham civilization, stopped to climb Marble Mountain and a visit to the old R&R site formerly known as ‘’China Beach’. Whilst in Hoi An we did a cooking class, which was fantastic.
Hoi An is a great place to have clothes tailor made and the restaurants are beautiful and so cheap.
We then flew to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon as the locals still call it). We did the Chu Chi tunnels, which were so interesting and amazing to see how the Viet Kong survived. One night we did ‘Saigon after dark’ on the back of vespers which was so much fun. We stopped to eat street food and then went to 2 different nightclubs. Cambodia and Vietnam are such amazing places to visit. The locals are so obliging and passionate about their history and their own families and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
